The Philippine APEC Study Center Network (PASCN) Participates in the APEC Study Centre Consortium Conference 2022 on “Post Covid19 and Future Directions of APEC”

The APEC Study Centre Consortium Conference 2022 (ASCCC 2022) with the theme “Post Covid19 and Future Directions of APEC” was held on 20-23 July 2022 at Dusit Laguna Hall, Dusit Thani Laguna Phuket, Thailand. The event, organized by the Thai APEC Study Centre-Thammasat University, was attended by the Project Directors of the APEC Study Centers and esteemed scholars across the region.

 

The Philippine APEC Study Center Network (PASCN) attended the networking functions and presented a completed co-authored PASCN-funded study entitled “E-Commerce Adoption and Its Impact on the Performance of Women-led MSMEs in Metro Manila: An Ex-ante Study for RCEP” by Ms. Jean Clarisse T. Carlos and Mr. Jovito Jose P. Katigbak under Session VIII: Global Common Concern II chaired by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chanin Mephokee, Acting Director of Thammasat Institute of Area Studies, Thammasat University.

 

An ongoing PASCN-funded study was also presented virtually by Ms. Marie Jel D. Bautista, Central Luzon State University entitled “Analysis of the Readiness of Philippine Tourism Enterprises for Trade Liberalization in Asia-Pacific” on Session IV: Trade, Investment, and Regional Economic Integration II.

By the end of the conference, the Thai APEC Study Center-Thammasat University turned over the hosting to the United States APEC Study Center- University of California, Berkeley. The next year’s host expects the participation of the APEC Study Centers across economies, and they call for stronger Track 2 APEC mechanisms.

 

The PASCN’s participation in international events helps PIDS in strengthening its involvement in Track 2 regional mechanisms which involve research collaboration, outreach, and dissemination. This allows PIDS to move closer to its vision to be the country's foremost think tank and a globally recognized policy research organization.
